So I just head to the store and choose raw not Kibble is it that easy?

It is not acceptable to go to the grocery store and pick up what you think is best to feed your dog.

There are specific diets that have been formulated to balance nutrition.

Feeding what you think is best for your dog can cause a deficiency in your dog’s diet. This could lead to several health problems if they aren't getting the nutrients they need to survive.

Most raw diets are balanced from bones, muscles, and organs.

There are two types of models that the raw feeding community goes off of in order to successfully feed a balanced raw diet.

  1. BARF model, which stands for Biologically Appropriate Raw Food.

The BARF model is broken down into percentages. It's 70% muscle meat, 10% raw edible bone, 7% vegetables, 5% liver, 5% other secreting organs, 2% seeds or nuts and 1% fruit. The BARF model is a great way to provide dogs with a balanced diet with essential nutrients. Dogs don't need plants for essential nutrients but they play a big role in completing the nutritional requirement in diets.

  1. PMR model, also known as the Prey model. PMR stands for Prey Model Raw.

The PMR model is broken down into percentages too. Its 75-80% muscle meat, 10% raw edible bone, 5% liver, 5% other secreting organs, and 0-5% animal-based insoluble fiber (fur). PMR typically does not include dairy or plant ingredients.

How Much Should I be feeding?

The amount of food is determined by the weight of your dog but a balanced BARF and PRM diet will always include these percentages when you break it down.
